History

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize is an annual music award that was established in 1992. The prize is given to the best album of the year, and is only for artists or band from the UK and Irenland. The prize gives a chance for alternative rock, pop, dance, or hip hop acts to be recognised by mainstream mesdia.this year's winner will be announced on November 1 and will be chosen from 12 nominees.

歷史

英國水星獎是1992年設立的年度音樂獎，僅頒給英國與愛爾蘭人或樂團的年度最佳專輯，這座獎項讓另類搖滾、流行歌曲、舞曲或是嘻哈音樂有機會獲主流媒體認可。今年得獎者在11月1日公布，有12名入圍者，由音樂界的資深人士做出定奪。

Notable Winner

In 2011 alternative diva PJ Harvey won the award for the second time her album Let England Shake. Beating Adele's 21 to the award once again proved that the most popular artist does not always win the prize. Primal Scream won the first Mercury prize in 1992 for their album Screamadelica. The Scottish alternative rock band countinue to record albums and tour 20 years later, but sadly had to cancel their recent tour date in Taiwan.

Lengendary alternative rock band Radiohead have been nomionated have been nominated four times but have failed to win. Omissions of many of Britain and Ireland's favorite groups reinforce the reputation of the Mercury prize for raising the profile of lesser-known artists. Other famous nominees that haven't won include Coldplay, U2, Oasis and Robbie Williams.

另類天后PJ哈維在2011年以專輯<撼動英國>再度得獎，亟待愛黛兒的<21歲>，再次證明最受歡迎的歌手不見得總是能獲獎。搖滾樂團<原始吶喊>在1992年以<吶喊症候群>專輯抱回首座水星獎，這支來自蘇格蘭的另類搖滾樂團在得獎後20年持續錄製專輯與巡迴演唱，但感傷的是，他們最近取消來台灣演出。

傳奇另類搖滾樂團「電台司令」已獲提名四次，但都與獎項擦肩而過。許多英國與愛爾蘭最受歡迎的樂團都無緣得獎，更鞏固水星音樂獎的名聲，因為從未背離提升較不知名藝人知名度的原則。其他知名藝人曾獲提名但未得獎的包括酷玩樂團、U2、綠洲合唱團以及羅比威廉斯。

COLDPALY

Coldpaly 酷玩樂團

是成立於1997年、來自倫敦的英國另類搖滾樂團。團員包括克里斯·馬汀（主唱、鍵盤、吉他）、強尼·邦藍（主奏吉他）、蓋·貝瑞曼（貝斯吉他）及威爾·查恩（鼓、合音、其他樂器）。樂團最早成形於馬汀與邦藍就讀於倫敦大學學院 (UCL)時期。

Oasis 綠洲合唱團

是1991年成立於曼徹斯特的英國搖滾樂團。樂團舊名「The Rain」，由連恩·蓋勒格（主唱／鈴鼓）、保羅·亞瑟斯（吉他）、保羅·麥克蓋根（貝斯吉他）與東尼·麥卡羅（鼓手／打擊）成軍，連恩的哥哥諾爾·蓋勒格（主奏吉他／演唱）也隨後入團。截至2009年6月，綠洲合唱團全球共坐擁超過七千萬的專輯銷售量。他們囊括8次英國冠軍單曲、7張英國冠軍專輯、15座NME音樂獎、9座Q音樂獎、4座MTV歐洲音樂大獎與6座全英音樂獎，包括2007年的傑出貢獻獎，以及BBC電台聽眾票選三十年最佳英國專輯。綠洲合唱團亦三度獲葛萊美獎提名。
