Steve Jobs (born February 24, 1955) is an American business magnate and inventor. He is co-founder,chairman, and former chief executive officer of Apple Inc.Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. He was credited in the 1995 movie Toy Story as an executive producer.

In the late 1970s, Jobs, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula,and others, designed, developed, and marketed one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. In the early 1980s, Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential of the mouse-driven graphical user interface which led to the creation of the Macintosh.After losing a power struggle with the board of directors in 1984, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in the higher education and business markets. Apple's subsequent 1996 buyout of NeXT brought Jobs back to the company he co-founded, and he served as its CEO from 1997 until 2011.

In 1986, he acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm Ltd which was spun off as Pixar Animation Studios. He remained CEO and majority shareholder at 50.1% until its acquisition by The Walt Disney company in 2006.Consequently Jobs became Disney's largest individual shareholder at 7% and a member of Disney's Board of Directors.

On August 24, 2011, Jobs announced his resignation from his role as Apple's CEO. In his letter of resignation, Jobs strongly recommended that the Apple executive succession plan be followed and Tim Cook be named as his successor. Per his request, Jobs was appointed chairman of Apple's board of directors.

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO

Steve Jobs, Apple's iconic cofounder and the visionary behind many of its best-selling products, resigned as CEO on Wednesday, saying he could no longer fulfill his duties.

Jobs, who underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004 and had a liver transplant in 2009, has been on medical leave from Apple since January. His resignation raised new fears that his health may have worsened.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," Jobs, 56, wrote in a letter to Apple's board. "Unfortunately, that day has come."

The attention now shifts to Cook, 50, who joined Apple in 1998. The Alabama native, who had previously worked at Compaq, quickly gained a reputation for being an operational genius - ensuring that the company made only as many products as it could sell, which made its supply chain the envy of the industry.

"The board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO," Levinson said. "Tim's 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does."

Jobs also struck an optimistic note.

"I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it," he wrote in his letter to the board. "And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role."

今年50歲的Tim Cook早已被大家公認是賈伯斯的繼任人選，但是在他眼前的將是難以的巨大挑戰，他要如何向外界證明，沒有了賈伯斯的蘋果電腦，一樣可以有令人驚豔的表現？

賈伯斯這個名字早已和蘋果電腦劃上等號，沒有了賈伯斯這號靈魂人物，蘋果電腦這塊招牌究竟還剩下什麼？

不同於賈伯斯的創意、膽識、固執，曾經在IBM和康柏電腦歷練過的Tim Cook，是個營運高手，10多年前加入蘋果後，主要負責產品製造與供應鏈流程的設計。有了這位營運天才作為強力後盾，才得以讓賈伯斯永無止境的產品創新，及時而完美地呈現在消費者面前。

賈伯斯兩次因病請長假的期間，Tim Cook已儼然成了蘋果電腦的代理執行長，而這兩次的「執行長實習」機會，Tim Cook證明了自己的實力。夠強悍、決策明快、精準到位的結果產出。

但是，他似乎缺少了賈伯斯之所以成為二十一世紀領導傳奇的兩大天賦：對消費市場的敏銳嗅覺以及獨樹一格的領導魅力。

目前華爾街更關心的問題是：賈伯斯離開之後，是否會牽動其他關鍵人物的離開，動搖蘋果電腦的根基？
